Sunday February 22nd: Girls day out in Toronto

1.3.15

It's been awhile since I had a good solid day out with a girlfriend and what better way to have one than to go cafe hopping, thrift shopping and oscar watching? A close friend of mine, Alena, and myself did exactly that.

My day started with gluten free waffles, topped with almond butter, cinnamon and maple syrup, matched with eggs, bacon and sausage. I was very content.

We first met up at and had lunch at The Green Room, which is 296 Brunswick Avenue. It's in a little alley way, tucked behind several other restaurants. Their menu is great, the food is decent (their sweet potato fries are so good), and the atmosphere is cozy since it's coupled with worn out couches and art splashes everywhere on the walls. I enjoyed a classic Green Room burger & sweet potato fries (fyi: my phone likes to auto correct fries to entrails, which is also quite delicious I hear)

We then decided to pop into Fika:

FIKA Definition: Originally used as a Swedish verb meaning “to go out for coffee,” the word fika can also be used as a noun (“coffee break”). It is standard in Sweden to invite friends to fika every few hours during the work day. One’s coffee is normally accompanied with a small snack such as a sweet bread, cinnamon roll, or piece of cake.
Pronunciation: FEE-ka

That's a definition from their website, which is here:

Fika is co owned by Victor Barry & wife, Nikki Leigh

We ventured in and bought ourselves a lavender white hot chocolate to go.
I love lavender.. and white chocolate.. and hot chocolate, so in conclusion, one can guess that I was floating in heaven while drinking this heavenly, divine drink. Honestly, I wanted to bathe in it, and smell like it. I wanted to have a long love affair with it, prancing around in meadows and holding hands on the beach. And in the end, we'd have to break it off because even though we both wanted each other, we knew that it would be better off in the long run if we went our separate ways because... sugar. I still dream about you every night..

Anyways. It was good. Go get one.
It also helps that the space is bright and airy, with books lining the walls. Very cool if you ask me ;)

We walked around Kensington market, popping into a little thrift shop along the way, and a crystal store.
Thankfully, the weather at this time was almost.. palmy haha. Palmy for winter anyway. It was only -6 out, so I could shed some layers and not feel like the abominable snowman

After, we walked along Queen Street West, and did some window shopping. It's very hard to feel motivated in shopping activities when it's cold, and it takes 5 minutes to just undress to try on clothes LOL.

Anywho, after shopping, we TTC'd it to Sud Forno, which is a delicious italian cafe/bakery Queen Street West near Trinity Bellwoods.
We ordered cannoli's, nutella stuffed beignets, and various other sweets.
We both went into a sugar coma for about 15 minutes afterwards.

*crying internally at how delicious it was*

After we managed to get ourselves up and outside, we grabbed a light dinner and made out way to Bloor Cinema where we watched the Oscars.

All in all, it was a very successful girl day out around town <3

Until next time
